Post Mortem (Haunted House/Basic Reborn)


The project has now been handed in, I am happy with the project I end with after all the issues I have while making to project, at times I was unsure if I was going to be able to get the project working in time, but I still managed in the end.

Things that I think well, were the movement and rooms systems previously mentioned in the other posts, I am really happy with the end product I got with them, it was the first time I used a 2-D array in a project and I struggled to grasp how to use it at first , but once I got over that hurdle I felt the project went smoothly after that.

The game overall functioned OK, there is still quite a lot of bugs such as the score system not always working when a new treasure is picked up, as well as events like the bats had no text to inform the player that the event had happened,  but with the end product it got the job done.

It was unfortunate that I could do what I wanted in adding to the game with more items and a large map, which ended up not being able to be added because of a lack of time.

If I was given a chance to make the project again, I would start a bit earlier so I had more time to polish the project and also I would not attempt to use enums at the start like this time, as I feel even if I could get that way to work, the way I ended up getting the game to function with a 2-D array for directions and a string array for the room information, then I would be able to spend more time polishing and adding more feature to that new version of the game.

I would also make sure to get at least a basic menu at the start of the game, to explain the controls and rules of the game to make it more user friendly.
