Assets
The first job I had for the group project in Ex Machina was to be the gather and creator of assets we were going to use in the game.
The idea behind the assets used/make was for a mechanical looking (lots of metal in the background, then very bold sharp text) menu system, to get the feel the game is very linked to technology which gives back to the source material of the game being a tech based movie, then in the game we went for a more indie looking game which uses pixel art as its easy to create your own assets if you can find any that suit your needs, as well as indie games suit the puzzle adventure genre that we were going for with our project .
As we are using main characters from the movie within our game, we had to have specific looking characters in the game, so i took a standard looking pixel character and edited its pixel and added some extra details while removing others to get us a movable sprite of Caleb.
Also as we were doing a tile based game I found a sheet of lots of different tiles and then separated each one in photoshop and upped its quality so it was blurry for the game.
